SERVICES
Tsebo Education Network (TEN) is an independent educational service provider with national footprint, specialising in the delivery of the following programmes:
LEARNER DEVELOPMENT
The Learner Development Programme is a supplementary programme that offers tuition to Grades 10, 11 and 12 (FET) learners. Over and above the face-to-face contact, learners receive study material and other resources and can access on-going support via TEN’s messaging platforms and subject helplines, enabling them to build solid foundational knowledge and achieve improved results. Subjects included in the programme are based on the objectives of funding partners and the needs of the Department of Basic Education. TEN presents the supplementary programme parallel to and in support of education delivered by schools, offering focussed intervention and added value to improve learner performance.
TEACHER DEVELOPMENT
The Teacher Development Programme is designed to provide GET (Grades 8 and 9) and FET (Grades 10 – 12) teachers with the development of subject content knowledge and teaching skills, resource materials and on-site mentoring and support in implementation of newly gained knowledge and skills and includes all subjects offered at high school level. Improved teacher knowledge and teaching skills lead directly to improved learner performance and ensure sustainable value is added to the education system.
PHYSICAL SCIENCES TEACHER DEVELOPMENT: CONDUCTING EFFECTIVE PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS
Physical Sciences teachers are faced with an additional challenge that they’re often not prepared for, that of conducting practical demonstrations required by the curriculum. This programme guides and develops teachers with the theoretical knowledge required for each practical demonstration and develops the skills required to conduct practical demonstrations effectively, in a simple, hands-on, step-by-step approach. It also provides learners with hands-on experience of science in action. Where absent, science laboratories are set up and teachers guided on the effective use and management of laboratories.
PHYSICAL SCIENCES TEACHER DEVELOPMENT: EFFECTIVE LABORATORY MANAGEMENT
Along with conducting practical demonstrations, science teachers also need to know what is required to stock, maintain and manage science laboratories effectively. This programme provides teachers with such information, knowledge and skills, ensuring fully-functional laboratories from where all practical demonstrations required by the curriculum, can be performed.
LEAD TEACHER DEVELOPMENT
While teacher development takes place with a broad approach and includes all subject teachers, the Lead Teacher Development Programme is focused on developing the subject expertise of teachers with the potential and commitment to lead and mentor less experienced teachers. This programme not only develops lead teachers’ subject expertise, but further provides them with the necessary mentoring skills required to become a second-tier curriculum support within the Department of Basic Education’s curriculum structure, alongside subject advisors. Developing lead teachers ensures that developed subject specialist expertise is integrated into the mainstream education system, thereby building curriculum capacity and adding sustainable value.
TOP ACHIEVER LEARNER DEVELOPMENT
To develop specific skills pools required by funding partners and industry, TEN selects learners with the potential to succeed at specific subjects and in specific careers. The Top Achiever Programme is structured to assist learners in a focused way to improve their academic performance to a level where they can obtain access to Bachelor and Diploma courses at tertiary level, as well as bursaries.
CAREER GUIDANCE AND TERTIARY ACCESS
The Tertiary Access Programme guides learners on the most suitable subject choice (Grade 9) and provides disadvantaged FET learners with personal insight, career guidance and close support in obtaining admission to and funding for tertiary studies. The programme also prepares learners for the transition from school to tertiary environments, enhancing their chances of success at tertiary studies.
DEVELOPMENT OF LANGUAGE COMPETENCE – WAECAVA?
The TEN Waecava? Programme is modular and designed to remove the language barriers impacting on teaching and learning in schools. The programme also offers communities with low literacy levels the opportunity to improve their English language competence. This programme consists of two focus programmes:
o The teacher programme develops teachers’ own abillity to use English as language of teaching and offers teachers practical guidance to support their learners in improving their language ability in English, across all subjects.
o The learner programme focuses on developing learners’ language ability, competence and confidence in using English as language of learning.
